Tanjong Pagar GRC walkover

My mum told me that Tanjong Pagar GRC walkover, and there are no contestant so we don't have to vote at all. LOL, so I guess I don't even have to worry about being disqualified or anything like that. lol!

Singapore Elections

I'm quite annoyed that I can't vote for my first election!!
As I'm overseas, but in UK the only polling station is in London.
And I won't be there on the 7 May ( I think ).

I've heard that if you don't vote for your first election, you'll be disqualified for future voting opportunities, as it's compulsory. Yet, I heard that for Singaporeans overseas at the time of the voting are the exceptions.
But, there is a polling station in UK, London.

I'm just really confused and I hope that I'm not disqualified for future elections.

82 of 87 seats are contested!

Though I'm in the UK, but I've been reading up alot on the campaigns going on in Singapore. I've read articles and watched videos.

" Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has warned Singaporeans, especially those in Aljunied GRC, they will "pay a price, the hard way" if they vote for the Opposition.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to Tampines on Friday night, MM Lee said, "If they (Aljunied voters) choose (the opposition), then I say, good luck to them. They have five years to ruminate and to regret what they did. And I have no doubts they will regret it."

The 87-year-old warned voters they would have to live with the choice they make come Polling Day on Saturday.

"It may well happen that they win, in which case the people of Aljunied live with the results," he was quoted as saying on The Straits Times.

"The only way people learn is when they have to pay a price. From time to time we may lose, and the voters pay the price, " he said.

He further cautioned, "If Singaporeans are that fickle, they will have to pay a price, the hard way."

He highlighted the example of opposition-held ward Hougang where, "If you have the wrong government, your property prices go right down. Ask why in Hougang the property is not as high as their neighbours."

The high-powered 'A' team from the Workers's Party contesting the Aljunied hotspot consists of former Hougang MP Low Thia Khiang, former NCMP Sylvia Lim, the party's "star catch" Chen Show Mao as well as family counsellor Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap and post-graduate law student Pritam Singh.

They will be up against the incumbent PAP team fronted by Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Madam Cynthia Phua and new face Ong Ye Kung, an assistant secretary-general of NTUC .

MM Lee also urged Aljunied voters to look at the track record of the different candidates.

"Do you want a capable team that can look after your interests, or do you want a team with little track record?" he said.

"At the end of the day, if you are in Aljunied, ask yourself: Do you want one MP, one Non-Constituency MP, one celebrity who has been away 30 years, and two unknowns to look after you?"

Or, he asked if voters would prefer two ministers, one potential Parliament Secretary, one potential Speaker of Parliament and one grassroots MP?

Cautioning voters against "trying their luck" when the value of their property and livelihood was on the line, MM Lee said, "Just think. Five years, they're in charge of your property and your lives... If you like to try your luck, well good luck to you. But I guarantee you, you will not do better than the PAP candidates."

MM Lee, whose own Tanjong Pagar GRC went uncontested, went on to question the WP slogan of "Towards A First World Parliament."

"Do you want a first world government or you want a first world opposition?" he asked.

"And is this a first world opposition? Can they compare themselves to the senators in the US congress?... If you want a third world or even a second world opposition to come and create a bit of excitement, well that's your choice," he said.

"But I do not consider them a first world opposition. I do not want to degrade them but you just look at their track record." "

I shaked my head as I read this article. Does he even realise what he's saying?? Do you think you can manipulate the voters by threatening them? Nah-ah I don't think so. However, threatening them would only make them think less of you and run the other direction. It proves to us anti-PAP ones what you're capable of. Is it only me? Or do you guys think that his speech just made PAP look even worse than it is already? So we will 'pay the price' if we don't vote for you huh? What little respect I had for you has deminished totally! Arrogance will get you nowhere!!!!!!

And seriously what is it about second world, third world?? It's been reported on the news that Singapore's MPs are one of the highest paid people in the world! EVEN MORE THAN PRESIDENTS! Where did you get all those money from?! From us I presume!!!

Is it just purely a coincidence that they are being so generous all of a sudden? The Grow and Share Package just before the General Elections? HMMMMM..............
Don't try to bribe us with money! It doesn't work that way! That few hundred dollars were ours to begin with.

PAP has always brushed aside the citizen's voice. Our cries for change are not heard and acted upon!

This is probably the most important election since independence day!
Ask ourselves, do we want a change in our government?

I say, vote for the oppositions! ( also not vote blindly for the oppositions, please do your homework. Workers party is one of them you should definitely vote for! )

If the opposition win this time round, I'm pretty sure there WILL BE BIG CHANGES MADE! I definitely can't wait for results!

Stand up for ourselves, Singaporeans! Don't vote for PAP!!!

That's my piece said. Back to my dissertation. I might post something about the opposition tomorrow.

Toodles!

Royal Wedding

Congratulations Kate and William! :)

Up to 2 billion people around the world tuned in to watch Kate Middleton marry into the royal family.

And yes, i'm one of them people. Were you?

I watched it live on television from 10am to 1.40pm

Beautiful gown, though it's simple but it just looks so amazing on her.
The light make-up, not overdone. awesome!
Loved the gown, the veil, the lace, the works. Everything.

Let’s sing the McDonald’s spicy chant to get a free vanilla cone! #ahhsstsstoohsstsstshiokahh

Dutch club sign one-year-old to 10-year deal

A Dutch club, VVV-Venlo signed up an 18-month-old toddler to a 10-year contract after seeing his football skills on youtube. His amazing kicking skills ( LOL ) , with footballs was filmed by his parents.

Here's the video. It's so cute that he rearranged the first ball by himself LOL!

The club held a press conference where the little cutesy boy was to sign a contract.

Now that's a little on the big side isn't it. hahahahaha!!!!!!

There has been talk about whether this is right or wrong move. As he's just a wee toddler, he doesn't really know what he's signing for. He doesn't really have the knowledge and ability to think for himself and make a decision. It was merely his parents who 'agreed' on his behalf to sign the contract. He doesn't know what he's in for.

However, it could possibly be just a publicity stunt isn't it?

Judge for yourself!

Iker the Octopus predicts Real Madrid victory over Barcelona

Iker the Spanish Octopus, really?

Well I suppose after the death of the all famous German Paul the Octopus, football fans have been wanting a replacement. Is Iker the Octopus the one?

R.I.P Paul... I still think you're the cuter one.

A message to the supporters of PAP

You probably have your own reasons (I certainly hope you're not voting blindly!) for advocating the PAP, but there is a reason why all 87 seats are being contested for the first time in Singapore history. There is a reason why upon hours of the news breaking on social media that Tanjong Pagar GRC will not be contested, there are people donating money so that opposition candidates can stand for election. (Hardly surprising when the fee is $16,000 per electoral candidate (up from $13,500 in GE 2006). What's more surprising was that the target of $48,000 for the 3 candidates was reached, in just MERE HOURS.)

There is also a reason why on YOUR Facebook feeds, there are more people posting pro-opposition links/videos/Facebook notes than pro-PAP related posts.

I had a friend who's associated with the YPAP once tell me that the incumbent government believes in community first, individuals second, and therefore by extension, country first, people second. I've given the issue some thought, and my reply is still the same as back then - a country without its people is a country only in name.

Or at least, isn't a country I would willingly be a citizen of, anyway.

If you don't take care of the people, attend to their needs, serve them, and administer to them, then i don't see why you should have the right to take on the role of a minister.

"min·is·ter [min-uh-ster]

verb

to give service, care, or aid; attend, as to wants or necessities.: to minister to the needs of the hungry."

Being a minister is not only a public service, but also an honour and a huge responsibility. You're chosen by the people to lead, and to serve, and that's what it is. The term public servant is not a misnomer; it is called such for a reason.

Friends, fellow Singaporeans, and Voters, I call on you to vote wisely. Ask yourself this: does a political party that ignores the voice of the people deserve a place in a democratic society? A government that is out of touch with the citizens will never make decisions for the good of the people. I see Senior Minister Grace Fu behaving like a rockstar, running around Yuhua and slapping high fives to makciks (ooo score 1 for political correctness). I see Mah Bow Tan on TV, saying that public housing is affordable when it very clearly isn't. I see Yaacob Ibrahim saying that the Malay language should be taught as a foreign language and quickly retracting his statements afterwards when the shit hit the fan (and also shifting the blame onto Singaporeans for misinterpreting his message. Uhhh, I don't see how THAT could be misunderstood). I see Vivian Balakrishnan on the news, besmirching the reputation of a good man, just because he is of a different sexual orientation (Sorry Vivian, but you have a girl's name. I think that's worse). I see Tin Pei Ling regurgitating straight-laced answers that was probably fed to her, with absolutely no evidence of critical thought. I see ex-Chief of Army, Chan Chun Sing, speaking like a lelong NTUC salesman. And most aggravating of all, I see PM Lee Hsien Loong stating that PAP wards get preferential treatment and housing upgrades because they voted for the PAP. Are the rest of us not Singaporeans? Do we not pay taxes, serve National Service, or know the significance of a packet of tissue on an empty seat? ARE WE NOT SINGAPOREANS?

The newspapers are suddenly full of good news and the best news by far for most Singaporeans is that we're suddenly receiving a few hundred dollars, right before the elections.

What, do you think you are dealing with idiots? Don't treat us as fools because by your own hand, we've become the most educated country in the world.

I don't want these people to be my leaders. All these actions are abhorrent to me, as a Singaporean, and as a human being. We are Singapore. We are a democracy. We are not idiots. And today, every Singaporean can exercise their democratic right to choose the government that they want.

Today, it's the reason why I'm proud to call myself a Singaporean.

"We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation."

UPDATE [27th April '11, 12.31PM]:Tanjong Pagar will not be contested after all. Doesn't matter. My point still stands.

UPDATE [28th April '11, 5.38AM]: Dr Chia Shi Lu, a man called upon by the PAP to stand for election at the 11th hour, has gotten a free ticket straight into parliament thanks to the walkover at Tanjong Pagar. Keep in mind that this man only stood for election because he was asked to by his party, and not because he wanted to serve. And because of the walkover, he's now a Member of Parliament, able to influence critical decisions involving the future of all Singaporeans. Thanks a lot, Mr Lee.

What A Day¬

Hiya all!
Tuart and I were supposed to go to Morrisons but we ended up at some cart racing track and a farm lol, but I didn't want to go because I was having motion sickness, a poorly tummy and a headache from the car ride.

I took a nap and the next thing *cheng cheng cheng* , I was at Durham! lol!
And there was a funfair! Initially I didn't want to go onto any rides, but just played on some arcade machines. He went on 2 others that went high up lol. And I remember one of them was the one that Jolynn, Tuart and I rode on when she was here. and she was hanging on for dear life, because the other girl was trying to pull the bar up. LOL. Anyway, I didn't go on that.

We went into town and to draw money and get an ice cream each and walked about for abit. We went back to the funfair. We went on the bumper cars, as it's not scary LOL. there were only 2 other cars with people in there. Both were dads with 2 little boys. The idea of bumper cars is that you're supposed to bump into other cars, but it seems that both dads weren't too happy that Tuart was bumping into them. And Tuart tried to avoid getting bumped into and just went straight into the wall and the impact of it caused my tummy to hurt like mad, as the bar of the ride pushed right into my tummy! The rest they say is history.

And after much persuasion I went on this ride called the Twister, that doesn't look scary BUT WAS SCARY! screaming my head off. !

We then had a bite and continued. He kept wanting me to go on one of those rides he went earlier but I didn't want to. We went to this other one.. I was quite wary of this one as it looked.. okay, but not okay. And i have to say...it was the scariest ride of my life! Sometimes you think a ride isn't scary, you're wrong!!! da cuo te cuo!! bu yao lai, wu ru wo de mei¬ wo bu shi ni de STYLE Wei he tian tian chan zhe wo! LOL! ok lame! the continuation of the phrase just led to a song! LOL! and that's all I can remember of the song, I think it's sang by chinadolls?

oh and yes, this reminds me of Jojo's MSN nickname! ai wo bie zou. lol and i continued it with ru guo ni shuo, ni bu ai wo.

I'm rather amazed with myself remembered the lyrics to Chinese songs. lol

Anyway! that ride was HORRIBLE!!!!!! i got out and my legs were wobbly! and i sat on the grass and just wanted to vomit! I just wanted to go back home. I had to stop alot of times to sit down and rest. And at one point I just couldn't anyway and I was walking whilst bending down, because whenever I stood up I just wanted to vomit! We crossed the bridge with much difficulty (me) and I stood there whilst Tuart drove the car over. I stumbled into the car and went to sleep so that I'd forget about the pain. After I woke up I was feeling much better.

Ok enough talk... one last thing...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Thanks to Jojo for showing it to me! lol :P

BAN the Grand Nationals

What irks me the most is that some people clearly don't know what's right and what's wrong. Yes the Grand Nationals has been a part of Britain for quite awhile. It brings the people together, it's exciting it's this it's that. But, at the expense of the animals? - in this case horses.

Why is there a need to put up such a high fence for them to jump over? Yes, for one it makes it all the more challenging, but really? At the expense of the horses?

We humans sometimes think that we're the king of the world, and we can do whatever we deem is appropriate and right. But really, the world doesn't just consist of us, but also other living things.

These innocent horses die because they jump over a fence and fall over. Jumping over a fence only takes up about 2 seconds, within these 2 seconds these horses die an unjust death.

I watched ITV Morning this morning and the host was talking to the commentator about the Grand Nationals and how they think it should be banned. They had a row and were arguing back and forth and I felt this rage rising inside of me.

This Grand National that happened last Friday, whereby 2 horses died on the tracks were referred to as 'just obstacles' by the commentator. 1 of the horses called Ornais ( 9 years old ) broke his neck at the fourth fence, and within seconds, Dooneys Gate ( 10 years old ) broke his back when he fell head first over the bloody fence.

And to top it off, the BBC covered up the deaths of these horses with a tarpaulin and the other surrounded by screens. The commentator had the cheek to say that they were just an 'obstacle'.

According to ITV Morning which I watched this morning, it was said that 33 horses died in the Grand National since year 2000, and a total of 132 horses died in horseracing.

This is the first time I've heard of the Grand National, and only knew how big an event it is through my boyfriend. Undeniably, I was quite excited about it all, and we almost wanted to place a pound on a horse of our choice, and watch it. But, we didn't.. alas, we ended up in SeaBurn walking along the beach. However, in the change of events, I'm glad we were gallivanting around SeaBurn instead of watching a cruel event on television.

That aside, I want to raise awareness about this situation and am hoping that the Grand Nationals will be banned forever!

And, by the way Mr Commentator, they are not obstacles... They are living things just like me and you who breathes, and most of all, have feelings too.
